Dog Obedience Training Edmonton

Dog Obedience Training
Edmonton.
Built For Real Dogs.

Six disciplines, one balanced method. Dog obedience training Edmonton owners book when they’ve tried everything else — and the work that actually holds up in the real world, not just the training room.

Overview

Built On Six Disciplines. Tailored To Your Dog.

No two dogs need the same plan. Most clients end up working on a combination of two or three of these disciplines — usually the foundation (obedience, stay/recall) plus whatever specific problem brought them through the door. Theta K9’s dog obedience training Edmonton program isn’t a package you pick from a menu. It’s a plan built around what your dog actually needs.

Every program starts the same way: a free in-person assessment, an honest conversation about what’s realistic, and a tailored sequence of sessions. The balanced training framework underneath each discipline stays consistent — positive reinforcement does the heavy lifting, with measured correction only when the situation demands it.

The Six Disciplines

What Dog Obedience Training Edmonton Looks Like.

01

Stay / Recall

Reliable stays under distraction. Recall that works when it counts — off-leash, around other dogs, in real-world environments. Most owners can get a stay on a quiet floor at home; the test is whether it holds when the squirrel bolts across the yard.

Common Issues

Bolting off-leash · Selective listening at the dog park · Recall that fails at the worst moments

02

Obedience

Sit, down, place, heel, leave it. The foundation everything else gets built on, and the backbone of every dog obedience training Edmonton program. Practical, repeatable, and proofed against the real world — not just performed in a clean training room with a treat pouch nearby.

Common Issues

Inconsistent response · Knows it at home, ignores it outside · Pulling, jumping, no impulse control

03

On / Off Leash

Loose-leash walking that doesn’t dislocate your shoulder. Off-leash control built incrementally, with safety as the priority. We don’t trust a dog off-leash until the on-leash work is rock solid — no exceptions.

Common Issues

Pulling, lunging, pivoting at distractions · Leash reactivity to other dogs · Can’t be trusted off-leash anywhere

04

Puppy Classes

Start it right. Socialization, foundation skills, bite inhibition, and the critical developmental work that prevents problems before they appear. Most behavior issues treated in adult dogs trace back to gaps in the first six months.

Common Issues

New puppy, no clear plan · Biting, mouthing, jumping · Wanting to prevent rather than fix later

05

Hyperactivity

Calm isn’t a personality trait — it’s a learned state. We teach impulse control, settling on cue, and the off-switch most dogs were never given. A tired dog is good. A dog who knows how to settle on command is better.

Common Issues

Won’t settle even when physically tired · Constant attention-seeking · Spinning, barking, no focus

06 · Specialty

Fix Aggression

Reactivity, leash aggression, dog-on-dog and dog-on-human cases. This is the work most trainers refuse — and the work Theta K9 is built for. Honest assessment, measured corrections, real results. We don’t promise miracles, but we promise to do the work no one else will.

Common Issues

Lunging or biting on leash · Aggressive toward visitors · Resource guarding, fence reactivity, bite history

Specialty — Aggression

The Cases Others Refuse.

Most dog obedience training Edmonton programs won’t touch aggression cases. The risk is high, the work is slow, and a single bad outcome can sink a trainer’s reputation. Theta K9 was built to take this work specifically — the giant breeds, the bite histories, the dogs with reactivity so severe other programs have asked the owner to leave.

The approach is the same balanced method applied with extra care: positive reinforcement establishes the foundation, measured correction enters only at the moments the dog’s behavior actually demands it, and the owner is coached at every step. We won’t sugar-coat what the work involves — aggression rehab is months of consistent effort, not a one-session miracle. But the dogs we take on get real results.

Common Programs

How Disciplines Combine.

Most clients work across multiple disciplines. Here’s what typical dog obedience training Edmonton programs look like once a plan is built.

Program A

Puppy Foundation.

Puppy classes —> Foundation obedience —> Loose-leash walking. The full developmental track for owners who want to build dog obedience training Edmonton-style from week one of life with a new dog.

Program B

Adult Obedience Reset.

Obedience —> Stay/recall —> Hyperactivity. The most common combination — foundation work paired with whatever the household is actually struggling with day to day.

Program C

Off-Leash Mastery.

On/off leash —> Stay/recall —> Distraction-proofing. For owners whose dog already has solid obedience and is ready for the next level of reliability.

Program D — Flagship

Aggression Rehab.

Fix aggression —> Foundation obedience —> Leash work —> Owner coaching. The longest and most demanding track. Required where bite history, severe reactivity, or dog-to-dog aggression is the primary issue.

Common Questions

About Our Services.

How long does a typical program take?

Depends entirely on the dog, the owner, and the discipline. Puppy foundation runs four to eight weeks. Adult obedience reset typically eight to twelve. Aggression rehab is a longer track — usually three to six months of consistent work, sometimes more for severe cases. Every dog obedience training Edmonton plan gets a realistic estimate at the free assessment, based on what we actually see in front of us.

Do you do private or group sessions?

Currently, every dog obedience training Edmonton session is one-on-one. Group classes don’t suit the kinds of cases Theta K9 specializes in — giant breeds and aggression work need individualized attention and controlled environments. As the program scales, supervised group work for graduated dogs may be added; until then, all sessions are private.

Where do sessions happen?

A mix — some sessions at your home (most foundational work transfers better in the dog’s own environment), some in controlled outdoor settings (for leash work and recall around real-world distractions). For aggression cases, the initial sessions are almost always at home with carefully managed introductions to new environments. Dog obedience training Edmonton travel covers the city itself plus Sherwood Park, St. Albert, Spruce Grove, and Leduc.

What ages and breeds do you work with?

All ages, eight weeks and up. All breeds, with a specialty in extra-large and giant breeds — Cane Corsos, Mastiffs, Great Danes, Rottweilers, Bullys, working-line Shepherds and Malinois. The balanced training framework works on every dog; the practical application just adapts to the dog in front of us. For breed-specific behavior context, the Canadian Kennel Club is a solid reference.

Do I need to be present at every session?

Yes. Owner coaching is a non-negotiable part of every program. Most behavior problems start at the human end of the leash — inconsistency, unclear expectations, accidental reinforcement of the very behaviors you want to fix. Sessions train the dog and the owner in parallel; otherwise, the gains don’t hold once the trainer leaves.

What tools and equipment do you use?

The lightest tool that gets the job done. Flat collar and standard leash for most foundation work. Long line for off-leash recall building. Marker words, treats, praise, and play as primary reinforcers. For severe aggression or recall liability, a properly-fitted e-collar at low working levels — only when warranted, only after foundation work is in place, only when the owner is fully on board with how it’s used.
